Overview
Terratel offer for the Asterisk project or FreeSwitch a line of high quality digital interface cards E1/T1 to connect IP PBX, IVR systems, VoIP Gateway, or custom telephony solution to the public telephone network PSTN.
The D-201E/D-401E telephony card is designed to build digital telephony systems based on the Asterisk IP-PBX. The card performs data/voice exchange over E1/T1 links.
The D-201E/D-401E card is notable for its flexible installation options – it can be installed in both 5V and 3.3V slots.
This allows to use the board in PCI as well as in PCI-X slots. The PCI master mode is used to relieve the CPU from I/O operations and increase the PCI bandwidth.
The PCI 32/33 MHz bus is used as a host interface. This card provides up to 60/120 links to transmit voice and data over four E1/T1 interfaces. The E1/T1 operating mode can be selected individually for each PCI card interface.

The D-201E/D-401E telephony card is fully compatible with DAHDI/Zaptel drivers.
Digital E1/T1 cards allow for installing the hardware echo cancellation unit – ECM-128-OCT/ECM-064-OCT of its own design.
Integration of PSTN with open software IP-PBX systems (Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, SipXecs, Yate)
To integrate PSTN with open-source software IP-PBXs, computer boards are used that provide communication via telephone lines with a E1/T1 interface.
Terratel Telephone Card Т1/E1 are designed for integration with open source telephone systems Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, SipXecs, Yate.
Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, SipXecs, Yate are scalable cross-platform (Linux, MacOS, Windows) telephone systems (software IP PBXs).
One of the implementations of joint use of Terratel Telephone Card E1 and the Asterisk (or FreeSWITCH) system is a digital VoIP gateway for interfacing PSTN and VoIP networks with support for SS7, PRI and SIP protocols.
Hardware Echo Cancellation Module
Echo appears when integrating VoIP and PSTN networks.
This is due to the fact that the VoIP network introduces a delay that analog TDM systems do not have.
Terratel has designed a hardware echo canceller module ECM-128-OCT for its digital telephony interfaces card E1/T1 for Asterisk-based IP-PBX appliances (or FreeSwitch).

The module provides a high level of echo cancellation and voice enhancement while reducing load on the CPU, as compared to Oslec (Open Source Line Echo Canceller), the software-based echo cancellation solution provided in the standard Asterisk framework.
Terratel’s echo cancellation module provides a high level of echo cancellation and voice enhancement while reducing load on the CPU. Each separate device (Terratel D201E or D401E) requires a single Echo Canceller card.
The hardware echo canceller module includes and support for up to a total of 128 voice channels.
It good alternative to software echo cancellation solution typically used in standard Asterisk systems (IP telephony solution).
The hardware echo canceller module is designed to process conversational information simultaneously in 120 channels, which allows not to load the processor of a VoIP system.
The solution is based on the use of Octasic’s DSP processor, which allows for 128 ms (1024 taps) of echo cancellation on all channels in accordance with recommendation G.168 ITU-T.
Advantages of using the hardware echo cancellation
The main advantages of using the hardware echo cancellation module:
- Use of Octasic DSP Processor
- 128 ms (1024 taps) echo cancellation on all channels
- Dynamic non-linear processor
- Automatic tail finder
- Cancel multiple reflections
- Double talk detection
